The Turbulent Brain: Rhythms and Waves

cgi art of brain inside a human skull

Despite its calm exterior, the brain is a hub of complex wave dynamics. Cognitive processes are facilitated through communication between neurons, leading to synchronization and oscillations at various frequencies that can be recorded.

These oscillations collectively generate waves that propagate through different brain regions. Beyond electrical activity, the brain also experiences slow chemical waves that can trigger migraines and mechanical waves resulting from trauma.

This lecture will explore the impact of these diverse waves on brain function.
