Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to questions we frequently get asked. If you have a question that is not answered here you can Contact Us

Attending events in-person

Are all events ticketed?

Yes, all Gresham events are ticketed which allows us to contact attendees with reminders and updates.

Please note, we oversell tickets for all our public lectures (due to drop out rates) and therefore a ticket does not guarantee admission. Please arrive early to ensure entry.

If I have a ticket, am I guaranteed entry?

Not always. While a ticket provides you with the opportunity to attend, it does not guarantee a seat in the main hall. We always issue more tickets than there are seats available, as audience attendance can be unpredictable.

To give yourself the best chance of securing a seat, we strongly recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before the event begins. Once the main hall is full, we can usually accommodate up to 20 additional attendees in our overflow room downstairs.

If you have a disability or specific access requirements, please contact us in advance - ideally by email a few weeks before the event - or call us on the day. Whenever possible, we will do our best to reserve a suitable seat for you.

We kindly ask that you treat our staff with courtesy if you are directed to the overflow space rather than the main hall.

How do I register to attend an event in-person?

Click on the white 'ATTEND IN PERSON' button next to the image on the event webpage. This will take you to Eventbrite where you can book your ticket.

Please note, in-person tickets are only available one month before each event; most lectures take place at Barnard's Inn Hall in Holborn, London but please check our website for confirmation of location and start time as we have several lunchtime lectures per term. You can follow us on X (Twitter)Facebook, LinkedIn,or Bluesky to see daily notifications of in-person tickets opening.

Can I still attend without a ticket?

If an event does not sell out or if turnout is low then we may allow entry without a ticket but we will normally wait until shortly before the start time.

Some events are strictly ticketed only for security reasons. This will be highlighted on the webpage.

Are there any age restrictions?

There are no formal age restrictions for Gresham College events, however we recommend that children under 12 are accompanied by an adult.  We reserve the right to ask disruptive audience members to leave an event. See our Code of Conduct for full details.

What can I do if I am struggling to book a ticket?

What can I do if I can't see the live broadcast?

Ensure you are using the latest version of your browser and refresh the page. You can also try to access the live stream via our YouTube Channel.

If you still have issues please send us an email at enquiries@gresham.ac.uk so that we can investigate in the days following the lecture.

Nb. As soon as a lecture is finished, the video can be replayed on the event page. In due course a slightly edited video will also appear there, and on our YouTube channel.

How can I download audio files from the website?

You can download audio files by clicking the Audio tab beneath the video on the event page. Hover over the file to reveal and click the Share icon in the bottom right. This looks like an upward arrow in a square.
