Dr Philip Mansel

Dr Philip Mansel is author of 13 books, including King of the World: the Life of Louis XIV (2019). It won the Franco-British Prize and has been translated into French, Dutch, German and Italian. His other books have dealt mainly with the French monarchy or the later Ottoman Empire. They include a study of early nineteeth-century Paris, Paris between Empires (2001) and the Napoleonic court, The Eagle in Splendour (2015)  and histories of Constantinople (1995) and Aleppo (2016) under the Ottoman Empire.

He is a co-founder of the Society for Court Studies and the Levantine Heritage Foundation and in 2012 won the London Library Life in Literature award. He is President of the Conseil scientifique of the Centre de recherche du Chateau de Versailles.
